Nathan Rogers

Assistant Director, Capital Planning at Dalhousie University

Nathan Rogers is the Capital Planner at Dalhousie University, with a strong focus on creating inclusive environments that inspire and motivate. He has led various significant projects at Dalhousie, such as the IDEA Building and the Student Union Building expansion. Nathan's expertise extends to serving as a planning candidate for boards like the Waterfront Development Corporation Limited in Halifax and the National Capital Commission Advisory Committee in Ottawa.

Beyond project management, Nathan is deeply committed to developing the next generation of urban planners. He has sponsored multiple professionals in obtaining their Canadian Institute of Planners credentials, with several recipients of the CIP's National President's Award for Young Planners under his mentorship. He believes in building strong teams to drive exceptional leadership.

Nathan's experience in capital planning aligns with smart cities initiatives, involving collaboration with startups, researchers, and civil society to enhance projects such as the IDEA Building. He actively engages with municipal governments to implement innovative solutions like protected bicycle lanes. Additionally, he is spearheading a 'Smart Campus' pilot project to leverage digital technologies for campus operations efficiency.

In terms of education, Nathan holds a Master's Degree in Master of Planning and an Advanced Certificate in Project Management from Dalhousie University. He also pursued an Ontario College Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management and Assessment at Niagara College and completed a Bachelor's Degree in Bachelor of Science at the University of Guelph. Prior to his current role, Nathan served in key positions at organizations like WSP (formerly GENIVAR) as an Urban Planner, and Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA) as an Environmental Planner. He also contributed to environmental research at the Royal Military College of Canada as an Environmental Site Assessor and Researcher.
