Nathaniel Petre, commonly known as Nate Petre, is a post-PhD researcher affiliated with the Dyson School of Design Engineering at Imperial College London. His innovative work has garnered attention, such as 3D printing the world's first algae-based surfboard and transforming ocean plastic waste into a valuable resource for local manufacturing. Over recent years, Nate has distinguished himself by establishing significant projects, including constructing the largest 3D printer in the Caribbean and leading the creation of Jamaica's inaugural 3D printed underwater sculpture park. His initiatives focus on empowering communities and scientists alike to explore diverse materials, from ocean plastics to biofabricated structures, as a means to support local economies and ecosystems. Despite his non-traditional engineering background, Nate holds a Bachelor of Arts from a distinguished arts school in New York City and has diversified his academic portfolio with studies in theater, biology, and electrochemistry.
