Thanks to @RealClearEnergy for providing a space to share my thoughts on the current political fodder surrounding the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Recently, there have been suggestions that inflation can be blamed on the IRA in general and clean energy tax incentives in particular. As a clean energy investor, and a proud Republican, I believe in both supporting the growth of clean energy in the U.S. and around the world, as well as in supporting President Trump in 2024. In the article, I point out that the clean energy tax credits contained in the IRA have no connection with inflation and are instead a product of the dramatic rise in oil and gas prices in the post COVID period, among other factors. Clean energy tax credits have long enjoyed strong bipartisan legislative support, especially in swing states. Furthermore, the @International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that global investment in clean energy will top $2 trillion in 2024, presenting a massive profit opportunity for U.S. manufacturers to compete with the Chinese, who currently dominate the supply chain.

Thanks to The Economist’s Vijay V. Vaitheeswaran for including me in his recent coverage of the future of energy under a Donald Trump Presidency.

In today’s rapidly changing economic landscape, it’s essential to understand the broader implications of policy decisions on this industry. For example, repealing the full Inflation Reduction Act would cause a disproportionate amount of harm to Republican congressional districts. The addition of sustainable energy investments, rather than the removal of fossil fuels, offer a pathway to economic resilience and innovation. An “all-of-the-above” energy strategy can be a strong platform for Republican candidates.
