"I should've bought the stock" says Director Ridley Scott. Don't we all wish that.
I am reminded again that any thing great and worth doing in life, movies, for profit or non profits requires bravery, kismet and a maddening amount of ALCHEMY
There is so much fun, juicy back story here; Including the meager budget, hiring unemployed angry UK skinheads, a quivering Apple Board, an Agency owner slow-walking a client "No" and of course the writer's lament about current political times (its at the end and worth a read)
I arrived at Chiat/Day, as a newly minted Ad puppy, a handful of years after this spot was made. Little did I know then that I was walking the halls amongst giants..Lee Clow, the legendary Creative Director, Steve Hayden the cerebral copy writer (when I worked at BBDO), Ridley Scott, the now famous Director (when I interned in his office at Paramount) and of course riding on a few shoots with my friend Richard O'Neill the tireless, ever positive, Agency Producer who helped make it happen.
I was so fortunate to be amongst them and I didn't even know it. This spot "went viral" before that was thing and was the face that launched a thousand Super Bowl Ads since. Bravo to all the people who made it and I sure hope some of them bought the stock back then.
