Neil Youngson

Principal Investigator at Institute of Hepatology

Neil Youngson is a dedicated professional with a passion for making significant contributions to the fields of epigenetics and medicine.

With expertise in genetics, epigenetics, metabolism, NAFLD, development, reproductive biology, and obesity, Neil has over 15 years of experience delving into various aspects of epigenetics in development and disease.

His academic journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Biology from the University of Cambridge, where he focused on the role of epigenetic modifications in gametes for developmental gene expression programs.

During his tenure at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, Brisbane, Neil explored the effects of mutations in epigenetic modifier genes on gametogenesis and offspring development.

In 2012, Neil shifted his focus to investigating the environmental impact of epigenetics in metabolic diseases and therapy, particularly in obese rodent models.

Currently leading his own laboratory, Neil concentrates on uncovering novel disease mechanisms in fatty-liver disease to propel the development of innovative therapies.

His skill set encompasses the entire spectrum of medical research, including idea generation, grant acquisition, experimental procedures, laboratory management, student mentoring, and lecturing at the undergraduate level.
