Niamh Murtagh

Dr. Niamh Murtagh is a Principal Research Fellow at the Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction, University College London (UCL), and a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Turku, Finland, and the Centre for Understanding Sustainable Prosperity at the University of Surrey. She is an environmental psychologist whose research focuses on sustainable behavior, particularly in the context of construction and the built environment.135

Her academic journey began with a degree in Computer Science from University College Dublin, followed by a career in software engineering and IT project management. She later transitioned to psychology, earning an MSc in Occupational and Organizational Psychology from the University of Surrey and a PhD in social psychology in 2010. Her research has since explored pro-environmental behaviors, behavior change, and climate resilience in the built environment.234

Dr. Murtagh's work is multidisciplinary, involving collaborations with architects, geographers, sociologists, and other professionals. Her recent projects include studies on urban greening and social resilience in older living communities. She has also co-edited a forthcoming book on pro-environmental behavior change.13
