Nicholas Fortugno

Co-Founder/CCO, Playmatics; Game Designer, Teacher, and Artist

Nicholas Fortugno is a highly experienced game designer, gamification expert, and digital games entrepreneur.

He currently holds the role of Chief Creative Officer at Playmatics, a renowned company specializing in creating engaging games, media, and user experiences across various platforms.

Prior to his current position, Nick co-founded Rebel Monkey, an online games company based in NYC, and held the position of Chief Creative Officer there from 2007 to 2009.

Before Rebel Monkey, Fortugno was the Director of Game Design at gameLab, where he contributed to numerous commercial and serious games, notably as the lead designer for Diner Dash and Ayiti: The Cost of Life.

Apart from his corporate roles, Nick Fortugno is also involved in academia, teaching game design and interactive narrative design at Parsons The New School of Design. He played a significant role in developing the school's game design curriculum.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Nicholas Fortugno co-founded the Come Out and Play street games festival in New York City and Amsterdam, along with the Big Urban Game in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

His expertise spans across various game design domains, including casual game design, digital game project management, game writing, interactive narrative design, real-world game design, board game design, card game design, gamification, and social game design.

Nicholas Fortugno has a robust educational background, with a Master of Fine Arts in Design and Technology from Parsons School of Design, studies in Literature at Hunter College, and a BA in English/Philosophy from Purchase College, SUNY.

In the past, he has held key roles at The City College of New York, Playmatics LLC, Come Out and Play, Rebel Monkey, and Parsons The New School For Design, showcasing his diverse professional experience and involvement in the gaming industry.
