We have been experiencing the same 'softer' M&A market that our top-tier colleagues have observed. That said, in the mid-market there are several outliers we are regularly seeing. By no coincidence they all happen to be regulated industries - pharmacy, childcare and franchising. For privately owned businesses, our founder/owner clients are asking two questions a) can I still get the price I want/need? and b) where else can I get a reasonable return on my exit proceeds (particularly given that property values don't seem to have corrected yet)? We are also seeing an increase in distressed M&A, but not the volume anticipated. It seems that the ATO and banks are still very much treading lightly on the economy in terms of enforcement activity. Would love to hear what other people are seeing from a deal flow perspective?
