Highlights
I've been thinking a lot about how I create content.
When I first started, I would spend months creating something awesome and film the process along the way.
The end product was one YouTube video. It showed how I built it and showcased the invention.
But there was such a high variance of success + views. Few videos would get 50-100k while most would get < 10k and flop.
It felt super demoralizing to invest months of work and a lot of money only to have a few thousand people see it.
I didn't like spending 40-50+ hours editing one video. I didn't like that my viewers were kept out of the loop for so long. I didn't like releasing one video every few months.
So I changed it up.
I started releasing more content on TikTok and Instagram reels. My 5-10 minute videos became 10-20 seconds. My one video every 2-3 months became 2-3 videos every week.
I was engaging with my viewers, taking their advice, and my inventions became a collaboration with my viewers; they were our inventions.
The results were pretty unreal.
Take my last project, a robot that solves Rubik's cubes.
20 million views across 18 videos on TikTok + Instagram. Thousands of comments and hundreds of thousands of likes.
I love seeing high engagement, but I also love releasing multiple videos every week, spending less time editing videos, and most importantly collaborating with my viewers.
I'm a few videos into my next project, the world's most powerful guillotine (lol). That's amassed over 4 million views over the last few weeks with much more guillotine content to come.
This is still a work in progress but I'm pumped for what's to come!!
If you've been following along on YouTube, thank you. I'll still be releasing content there sometimes. But if you want more real-time updates, follow along on TikTok @nick_ohara and on Instagram @nickohara
