Where on earth can you find answers on the Life and the Universe? 🌌

Not precisely in philosophical books or meditation (as suggested by chatGPT).

Nor in the famous Douglas Adams’ movie “H2G2”.

Even if when your lift sinks fast into the Earth's mantle, you fell like in a Sci-Fi movie.

And that is before you land in a cave 100 meters down the surface to see a gigantic 7000 tons metal-made flower hanging onto the world’s most powerful particule accelerator, also known as Large Hadron Collider (LHC).

This unbelievable place on Earth is the CERN.

Last week, thanks to and along with SMLH Section Suisse president Nicolas FRIZON de LAMOTTE and Florence Notter-Daugny 🙏🏽, I had the privilege to explore the CERN guided by the remarkable Prof. Fabiola Gianotti.

This was definitely a timeless moment, reflecting on how human science tirelessly works to unravel the mysteries of our universe's origin. My visit, resonating deeply with my entrepreneurial journey, confirmed my some of my deepest convictions:

1️⃣ A Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) can powerfully engage people for decades. What struck me at first when meeting with CERN scientists is the genuine passion that drives their action and the way they share their day-to-day with pride and humility at the same time. can you believe, CERN teams succeeded in re-creating the extreme state of matter, as it was one millionth of a second after the Big Bang. 🤯

Behind its quest to uncover what the universe is made of, CERN was created in 1949 by a small committee of renowned scientists to retain talents from flying to US and to unite Europeans through science. And 75 years later, CERN scientists continue to serve that purpose, to stimulate forward progress, leading world’s research on fundamental physics and cementing the core of European humanity.

2️⃣ Knowledge is wasted when it isn't shared. I do believe in Collective Intelligence and Surowiecki systems. Now imagine the crowd involved is a community of almost 20 000 scientists from 110 different nationalities, sharing knowledge, researches and data to push further and further the boundaries of technology. That inevitably leads to globally impactful applications, way beyond high energy physics. World Wide Web 🕸 , Grid Computing and PET scanners are some examples of the CERN “by-product”.

3️⃣ Great things are done by a series of small things brought together. At CERN, tiny particle behaviors unlock vast cosmic mysteries. And the ability to seamlessly transition between the macro and micro scales is fundamental to CERN's most significant accomplishments. Creating collision of particles, which are measured in femtometers, demands flawless precision. Which implies an impeccable execution across the entire 27-kilometer length of the installation.

It cannot be a coincidence if the CERN is built upon the land of Micromegas’ author, Voltaire. CERN carries on Micromegas’ interstellar journey, while uniting Humanity in its eternal quest of knowledge.

Had the privilege of meeting Frankie Ng, the visionary, yet very pragmatic, CEO of SGS yesterday at unlimitrust Campus. Impressed by their broad vision, seamlessly blending industry expertise with cutting-edge technology, including of course genAI, while anticipating regulatory moves. A lot on the plate of this global leader.

I am also thrilled to see SGS leadership actively engaging with the Trust Valley startups community, including our portfolio ventue Cyberion, with the clear objective to drive further innovation and to fuel their growth. A testament to staying ahead in a competitive landscape. #SGS #Innovation #GlobalLeadership #Trust Thank you very much Pascal Marmier (孟思恺) and Lennig Pedron for the invitation and for this 1st class event!
