Highlights
The unspoken crisis: 1 in 5 youth from Connecticut were found at-risk or disconnected from employment or educational systems in 2021-2002, affecting both their financial self-sufficiency and the state's economic potential. I know CT is far from the only place that this crisis is happening, but attaching a name and data matters. What I love about this report is the amazing way the team knit together de-identified data from all over the child-facing system to get a picture of the whole person. Decades of experience show that across-the-board budget cuts don’t work for state and local governments trying to operate more efficiently. Although putting every agency through uniform cuts might sound like a good way for everyone to share the responsibility, it can hamstring critical services while leaving potential savings on the table. As we move from an era of federal largess into State budget deficits, thoughtful approaches are key.
