Nicole Butterfield is a seasoned researcher and editor with a diverse background encompassing social justice activism, human rights, and transnational civil society. She also possesses expertise in software engineering, data science, AI, and machine learning.

Her educational journey includes a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Gender Studies from Central European University, a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Gender Studies from the same institution, a Visiting Scholar in Sexuality Studies/Women's Studies at Duke University, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in European History and Art History from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Throughout her career, Nicole has held various roles in prestigious organizations such as O'Reilly Media and Manning Publications Co. where she served as an Acquisitions Editor. She has also worked as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at John Jay College (CUNY), a Marie Curie Fellow at the University of Zagreb, and an Affiliated Member at the Gender Research Group, University of Szeged, among others.

Additionally, Nicole has shared her knowledge and expertise as a Visiting Lecturer at Central European University, Lecturer at the University of Szeged, Assistant Acquisitions Editor at Manning Publications Co., and in roles at InTech Open Access Publisher, Peace Corps as a TEFL Volunteer, Full Frame Productions as an Administrative Assistant, and The Historian as a Senior Editorial Assistant.
