Few months ago I committed to get more involved to address the issue of systemic racism. Below is a group I would encourage you to join.
Brown for Black is a collective of individuals committed to being better allies in the Black Lives Matter Movement. Our focus is on engaging and inspiring South Asians to get involved in the fight against racism and to encourage actionable allyship - from financial contributions to community involvement. We realize our privilege and are learning that allyship mustn't end when headlines do; it will take consistent and committed action to fight against injustice.
Thus far, there are ~60 of us who have collectively pledged >$500k over the next three years to fund Black-led causes. Each year we will vote on funding focus areas and the actual organizations we fund. Along the way we are committed to learning how to be better allies ourselves.
We understand the implications of the name, but we welcome anyone to join the collective and believe it will be a valuable journey for all. We are calling it Brown for Black to motivate, in particular, other communities of color to rally for the Black community.
