Yesterday the John Lewis Partnership won our first planning permission to build much needed new homes for rent in Bromley.

I want to thank each and every person involved in this project for helping us achieve a great outcome for the community of Bromley. Not only will it mean 353 new high-quality rental homes for the local area, it will also contribute significant investment into the community, a new state of the art Waitrose as well as new green and communal spaces.

As a Partnership, we see building homes for rent as a key societal need and one that we have an opportunity - and a responsibility - to help drive. We’re using brownfield land we already own and unlocking its potential by making better use of the space above our shops to create homes where transport links and energy infrastructure already exist. It benefits the Partnership by bringing in new, sustainable income over the long term.

We would bring the Partnership’s purpose, values and experience in providing great customer service to creating housing that people are proud to call home.

Thank you for your continued support and let's keep driving growth and building thriving communities together.

Customers of Waitrose & Partners and John Lewis & Partners have very high expectations of the Partnership to operate in an ethical way - as the largest employee-owned business in the UK and one that, unusually, operates on democratic principles.

For the John Lewis Partnership combating modern slavery within our supply chains goes far beyond a legal obligation. It is intrinsically linked with our values and our purpose - “Working in Partnership for a happier world”.

That’s why we ensure that minimum standards are not only met but maintained throughout, and have been reporting on our actions in this way since 2016.

This week, we've published our 2023/24 Human Rights Report and Modern Slavery Statement, which you can read here: bit.ly/3y4kBNS #HappierWorld #DrivenByPurpose
