One of the most exciting features of Microsoft Teams is Intelligent Recap, which allows users to catch up on the highlights and insights of meetings – even those they missed. My family especially loves this, as it frees me up to attend parents teacher conference at my sons’ schools and other family events! I’m so proud that this feature was born out of an internal tool developed by my HIVE team in Israel.     Here is how an internal tool and portal called MCU (Meeting Catchup Portal) evolved to become one of the most popular features in Teams, thanks to the feedback and enthusiasm of its internal adopters and leaders across the company.    My team in Israel started working on MCU in early 2021, when they realized that the COVID-19 pandemic had created a huge opportunity for meeting intelligence. Millions of people were now meeting online, and online meetings generated a lot of digital signals and data that the team could leverage. They built MCU so that users within Microsoft could see a list of all the meetings they had access to, with annotations highlighting what was interesting or relevant to them. That included mentions of their name, tasks assigned, or the arrival/departure of meeting participants. The tool also provided smart navigation and summarization of the meeting recordings, using visual cues and AI techniques to help users quickly find the parts they cared about.     They experimented with different user interface concepts and got feedback from an internal community of enthusiasts, who used MCU every day and gave tons of suggestions and usage data.    For an October 2022 hackathon, they decided to take MCU to the next level by integrating it with GPT-3, the large language model that enabled even higher-quality summarization and insights. The results inspired us and our friends in the Microsoft Teams to build this experience in Teams.  We moved it from ideation to production in six months!   I am blown away by the innovation, drive, cross team collaboration and thoughtful execution of HIVE team in Israel – they embody MSAI Leadership Tenets (more on this in next post).  Give Meeting Recap a try and share your feedback!

Wow, what a year it has been! I've been at Microsoft for over 20 years, but 2023 has been the most thrilling one by far. We went from a wild idea to a game-changing reality in less than a year, launching our Microsoft 365 Chat experience in June to select customers and in November to everyone. It was a roller coaster ride and I’ve never been more energized by my work!  Check out this short video of what this new tool can do: https://lnkd.in/duAqs3NW

I use Chat every day to do things like find information and knowledge across my company, catch up on people, meetings, and topics, and create first drafts of emails and documents. It's like having my own personal, AI-powered assistant, that combines the power of LLM, the Microsoft Graph, and the security inherent in Microsoft 365 experiences. Every morning, I ask it to highlight important meetings and arm me with the information I should read to be prepared. I've asked, "I have a meeting with Satya next week on Copilot, please help me prepare," and gotten super helpful results. All of this makes me more productive and frees me up for more creative work by automating my mundane tasks.  Our customers love it, too: 70% of users said they were more productive and 68% said it improved the quality of their work; 77%  said once they use Chat, they don't want to give it up. Here is the announcement that launched it to the public:  (https://lnkd.in/d4VXC_k3).

I'm so proud of my MSAI team, who developed this experience by leveraging LLMs to convert user input into a query plan, extending the Microsoft Search system, and collaborating with many teams across Microsoft. I'll be sharing more about Teams Copilot in the new year – it's another awesome Copilot experience that I use multiple times a day, during and after the meetings. I'll also talk about the Leadership Tenets we developed for our organization. They have been super helpful in helping us achieve our milestones for Copilot this year.

I wish you all a very happy holiday season. I'll be recharging after our team's sprint to bring Microsoft Copilot to market, to be ready for more excitement in the new year. #Microsoft #AI #CopilotAI #M365 #MSAI
