Did you know AI companions are the hottest trend in generative AI? Shockingly, 200 million people have created virtual relationships, while only 10 million use AI for practical tasks like writing.

My brilliant and beloved friend Julia Freeland Fisher nails it: "Bots cure feelings of loneliness but scale isolation." This begs the question: What happens when our friends are a mix of human and AI bots? How will this affect our ability to build real social connections?

I'm not against AI - I'm even working on an AI social capital bot myself. But we need to think hard about how these innovations reshape our social world. The potential impacts on relationships and society are complex and deserve serious consideration.

Thank you KCBS Radio for having me on the show to talk about the importance of social capital skills for recent grads and entry-level workers!

It's getting harder and harder to get a job right now. A Greenhouse study recently found that having a referral improved a candidate's odds of receiving an offer by 6x compared to other external candidates. Experts also estimate 70% to 80% of job opportunities are never posted publicly in the first place. This is where social capital comes into play. It's imperative that job seekers know how to build relationships so that they can unlock job referrals.

At Climb Together, we help education and workforce organizations build social capital with their learners because who you know really does matter as much as what you know.
