Highlights
When I say that Foxtrot was Ruby Hibiscus' very first door, I mean it was our very first door. We were one of the finalists for their first ever Up & Comers awards, which guaranteed us placement and marketing exposure for a set period of time. I remember waffling on whether we should fulfill their order - we were just starting out and Chicago felt like it was another planet away. Weren't we better off just focusing on our home turf in NYC?
Thankfully Barr Balamuth knew better and said, "I think they're doing something really special. If we can make it work, we should make it work." And we did. And (not for the first or last time) Barr was 100% correct. Foxtrot had created an amazing marketplace built on discovery for emerging brands. Every time I visited one of their stores I made sure to bucket "personal time" so that I could do some shelf-shopping of my own and get an idea of what new brands were launching (and what goodies I needed to try).
What's more - their team was always friendly and willing to engage in a conversation about, well, anything. The state of CPG. What was exciting them. What they loved. Whether it was their grocery buyer (shout out to Ashley Alden who has since gone on to create an exceptional CPG consulting group) or the in-store team, some of who are pictured here, they are all rockstars. Very bummed to hear the news about their closing, and hoping that their team (both in-store and corporate) are taken care of and recognized as the absolute bada**es they are.
There was never just one line… just as there is not just one galaxy, but something far greater… say hello to the next generation of Ruby. Same clean ingredients with a new clean design. Presented by Flock Creative, the best gosh darned creatives this side of planet Earth (and beyond).
We'll be rolling these out throughout 2024. Will be writing a separate post that dives deeper into the thought process for this design, the challenges it solves for us and the opportunity it creates. Until then... we have nothing but gratitude to kat karpati and her team (and can't recommend them enough).
