Norma A. Alcantar

Norma A. Alcantar serves as the Associate Dean for Research at the College of Engineering at the University of South Florida (USF), where she leads research activities for over 200 faculty, 2,000 students, and staff.

With more than 20 years of experience in academia and industry, Norma's expertise lies in microscopy, spectroscopy, and materials science applications in areas such as water, health, and sustainability.

Recognized as a Fellow of prestigious organizations like AAAS, NAI, AIMBE, and AIChE, Norma demonstrates leadership and advocacy for science and engineering while actively promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields.

In addition to her role at USF, Norma contributes to various boards and committees, including AIChE's Board of Directors, BOLD Committee as Chair for the Committee for Underrepresented Minorities-AIMBE, and a Member-at-Large at the AAAS Engineering Section.

Norma A. Alcantar is dedicated to mentoring and empowering the next generation of engineers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, and fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation within the academic community.
