Having worked with over 150 startups, running accelerator programs and mentoring founders, I’m pretty sure I learnt more than they did. It was an incredible journey that led me to create Human Due Diligence, a company focused on the human behind the founder. Years later, I embarked on a different journey, shredding 25 kilos in 6 months and I realized that running a company was no different to losing weight and getting fit. I realized the parallels between successful business strategies and achieving personal fitness goals, particularly weight loss. Or to be blunt, from chubby to abs. It highlights how many leaders excel in managing corporate finances and strategy only to struggle with their own health. There’s an emphasise on the importance of data-driven strategies, goal setting, and adapting business principles to personal wellness. If you want to lose weight effectively, start treating weight management like managing a company, focusing on balance, budgeting (caloric intake), setting achievable goals, and optimizing operations (nutrition and exercise). LinkedIn is a funny place to hang out sometimes... not surprisingly, a reflection of what business has become. We've all become experts, critics, ambassadors and cheer leaders. First, it was the thousands of "hey congrats on your job anniversary"... then the "hey this is my company and product let's hop on a call and waste each others' time because in the age of technology, I can't even bother to research anything" and I'll just message you over and over again until you tell me to f off - maybe you didn't see my first 4 messages..." and then I stumbled across, or should I say, LinkedIn prodded me towards the "world of expert articles": https://lnkd.in/dkek36Hb. I actually contributed to 2 until I realised... who the hell writes this crap, who reads it and beyond working "your personal brand", who cares? I'm going back to phone calls, coffees and the occasional lunch to check in. (Feel free to call me - yes my number is online). Sure technology is a great "assistant" but god do we waste so much time on this crap... and "your personal brand"... do you know how stupid that sounds? I'm a proud father of 3 incredible young independent women, or should I say, "3 incredibly diverse evolving and adaptive personal brands", like M&Ms? I wonder why no one tries to recruit me... I'm looking for an opportunity, no THE opportunity... This isn't a rant, its what you get to do when you are part of the 5am club - no-one else is awake and you just do what you want... you didn't really think we were getting ready to "kill it" all day long, did you? Happy New Year to all of you and now go hug someone physically not virtually... 😍
