These Metro trains were my weekly commutes - to school, and then to Kiev Polytech. Seeing Red Cross volunteers in war-time safety helmets riding Kiev Metro to deliver basic supplies still feels like a bizarre movie. Unfortunately, in the words of Zelensky, “This is not a movie”. Tanks near my old apartment building, my friend leaving her home in Kiev with her daughter and a change of clothes in a small bag; my cousin and his kids barely escaping shelling in Sumy - none of it is a dream, nor a movie. That’s the bad news.

The good news — everyone can help. This help does not require a personal sacrifice, but it will make a huge difference. Thank you dearly to everyone who reached out to me and asked how to help, or otherwise found a way to donate. If you are still looking, here’s a sure way to help:

International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are appealing for funds to help people affected by the war in Ukraine – I’ve linked to the appeal at the bottom of this post. To help provide urgent relief to those in need, you can use either of the following links and donate to ICRC or IFRC:

⁃International Committee for Red Cross is on the ground in Ukraine, working with Ukrainian Red Cross: http://ICRC.org ⁃International Federation of Red Cross is working with national Red Cross Societies of neighboring countries accepting and helping refugees: http://ifrc.org
