Friday thoughts on #RTO (return to office)...
I keep reading loads of similar kind of posts here on LinkedIn, from a mass of talented people voluntarily leaving their jobs, because of forced return to the office. The last one in particular got me thinking, as it was by someone leaving one of the largest on-line businesses in the world (tell me who without telling me who 😉 ) and I found it particularly interesting that such an on-line giant doesn't think it's a good idea to apply the same on-line ethos to their working environment 🤷♀️
As a massive fan and advocate of remote working, having worked fully remote myself for the past 3+ years now, it really baffles me that so many businesses are willing to lose amazing talent just to fill up their real estate space..We all have different reasons for preferring remote work, for me it is:
🕐 saving myself 3+hrs of daily commuting to spend that time with my family instead...now also including my new puppy Max
🌈 being able to better support my autistic child and especially his need of strict routines, which I can much better fulfil being present at home
💸 saving a huge amount of money on train fares to London
🎧 better focus when I am in a quiet environment at home and what comes with that, better productivity!
😬 my improved wellbeing due to reduced stress from commuting (think constant rushing & packed, cancelled, delayed trains...)
The list could go on and on, I guess what I am trying to say here is that I personally believe remote working isn't "just a phase" and is here to stay and companies that are not listening to their employees are at huge risk of not only loosing their existing talents, but struggling to attract new ones.
So my final thought is...thank you to Mangopay for being an accommodating and flexible employer and allowing me and many other colleagues (unless there are specific restrictions), to select between remote, hybrid and in office options, to suit a spectrum of people's preferences 🙌. Btw we have a number of flexible positions available across most of our departments, so take a look if you are on the lookout: https://lnkd.in/e4PujH8s
