Olav Ofstad is a seasoned professional with a diverse background that includes experience in the legal field, academia, and humanitarian work.

With a career that began in law enforcement and transitioned into the humanitarian sector, Olav has held various significant roles, such as serving as a police lawyer/public prosecutor, deputy judge, senior partner in a private law firm, and a lecturer.

In 1992, Olav made a shift to the humanitarian field and worked as a diplomat at Norwegian embassies/NORAD in Pakistan and India, focusing on development aid.

His experience expanded as he engaged with organizations like UNHCR in Bosnia and the Norwegian Refugee Council in Serbia, followed by multiple involvements with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Throughout his career, Olav has also delved into conflict management research, writing, and consultancy work, alongside his passion for subjects like kidnapping survival, practical application of social psychology, and peacebuilding.

Olav Ofstad is the co-author of 'Conflict Management in International Peace Operations: A Handbook for Officers and Soldiers' and has contributed significantly to the field with publications like 'Conflict Management in International Missions: A Field Guide' published in 2015.

He has been associated with esteemed organizations such as the Independent as a Visiting Research Fellow, and he has held key positions like International Disaster Response Law Coordinator and Country Representative in various regions at IFRC and the Norwegian Red Cross.

Olav's educational background includes studying at the University of Oslo.
