Highlights
I never posted anything like this before on social media but I believe my recent negative experience with Booking.com is worth sharing.
In short, I’ve been trying to reach out to their customer service for 2 (!) weeks to escalate the issue I had with one of the properties - in July I was bombed with numerous financial scam messages by a hotel asking for additional bank details to complete my reservation. Spoiler: the reservation had been paid in full by then, it was a non-free cancellation option actually. However now I have zero intent to stay at that place.
While waiting for the Booking.com support reply (they claim their response time is 24 hours by the way) I continued my communication with the hotel directly and received a very unprofessional and rude reply from the property representatives assuring that the scam messages were sent out by Booking.com themselves.
Whether it’s a data breach on the hotel or the Booking.com side, the reaction (or no reaction from the service to be precise) from both parties raises a lot of concerns and questions. Apparently this type of scam on Booking.com is not something new and you can easily find many similar cases reported on Reddit and other travel forums.
Please share your data carefully to stay safe and be very cautious with your experience on Booking.com!
