"I believe the children are our future!" - Whitney Houston (yes, I am that corny).

⚖ I thought of this lyric as I hosted the Muslim Congressional Leadership Development Program (CLDP) fellows at the Justice Department. These students and recent graduates asked sophisticated questions about our government, democracy, and civil rights. I tried to convince some of them to consider careers in public service, law, or civil rights.

🏛 The Muslim Congressional Leadership Development program—which I helped start in 2015—places college and graduate students in summer Capitol Hill internships. The goal is to expose the fellows to careers in public service.

👏 The program provides them with housing, a living stipend, and professional development programming. We started it with 3 students, and it now supports about 20 students annually. I’m no longer involved in the program, but I am glad to see it flourishing!
