I am thrilled to share that I received a certificate in Strategic Organization Design from the University of Southern California, Center for Effective Organizations at USC Marshall . This achievement is particularly meaningful to me as it embodies the principle of "Sharpen the Saw," a mindset I cultivated during my time at Procter & Gamble through the Seven Habits for Highly Effective Leaders program.

The principle of “Sharpen the Saw” complements Microsoft’s Growth Mindset and learn-it-all culture, by encouraging ongoing personal and professional renewal, ensuring that we remain effective and innovative in our roles. And, in the fast-paced world we live in, it’s easy to neglect our own renewal and well-being. Yet, just like a saw that requires regular sharpening to remain effective, we too need intentional care and renewal. Here’s how I sharpen my saw, holistically:

  • Physical Renewal: Regular exercise, proper nutrition, and adequate rest are essential. When I prioritize my physical health, I enhance my capacity to tackle challenges and maintain sustained energy.

  • Social/Emotional Renewal: Building meaningful connections and nurturing relationships, fostering empathy through community service, and advocating for others through mentorship contribute to my overall social/emotional well-being.

  • Mental Renewal: Lifelong learning keeps our minds sharp. Whether through formal education or continuous curiosity, staying intellectually engaged helps me bring fresh perspectives to my work.

  • Spiritual Renewal: This doesn’t necessarily refer to religious beliefs. It’s about finding purpose, aligning with our values, and connecting to something greater than ourselves. Personally, I enjoy yoga, meditation and journaling as practices for self-reflection and ongoing alignment.

As Dr. Stephen R. Covey wisely said, “Renewal is the principle—and the process—that empowers us to move on an upward spiral of growth and change, of continuous improvement.” This journey has been a testament to that philosophy, and I am excited to leverage the insights from this experience to enhance the work I'm leading through the OD COE at Microsoft.

Importantly, I want to extend my gratitude to the incredible HRBPs and OD practitioners I had the pleasure of learning from during this training. Your business acumen, industry insights and expertise have been invaluable. A special thank you to the USC faculty (Chris Worley, Beth Gunderson, and Liz Vales Damron) for anchoring the training in business strategy and ensuring its practical application. Your approach and guidance truly made a difference.

LinkedIn Community, I just completed the first year of my doctoral studies and am now starting my research on the future of work, under the guidance of my content advisor, Dr. Richard Boyatzis, an expert in the field of emotional intelligence and behavior change. I’m inviting organizations to participate in my study on resilience and adaptability in navigating the evolving work landscape.

The study will focus on how organizations are responding to changes like AI, the deconstruction of jobs, the gig economy, and flexible work. I’m looking to work with 10 organizations (5 resilient and 5 less resilient) and interview four executives from each to understand their strategies and approaches.

By participating, your organization will gain insights into effective resilience strategies and contribute to important research shaping the future of work and organizational development. Confidentiality is assured, and written consent will be obtained before any discussions.

If interested, please reach out to me directly to discuss collaboration opportunities. Let's work together to help organizations thrive in times of change.
