Omonike Olaleye

Interim Associate Provost and Associate Vice President for Research at Texas Southern University

Dr. Omonike Arike Olaleye is a distinguished academic and researcher at Texas Southern University (TSU). She is a professor of pharmacology and currently serves as the Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Innovation at TSU.12 Dr. Olaleye has over 20 years of experience in drug discovery and development research, working in major pharmaceutical companies and academia.1

As the principal investigator of TSU's NIH-NIMHD U54 RCMI Center for Biomedical and Minority Health Research (CBMHR), Dr. Olaleye leads efforts in minority health and health disparities research.1 Her work has contributed to the discovery and development of novel therapeutic agents for drug-resistant infections, including vancomycin-resistant infections, multi-drug resistant Tuberculosis, HIV, and COVID-19.1

Dr. Olaleye is African-American, born in Boston, Massachusetts, but spent her early years in Nigeria.1 Her experiences growing up in Nigeria and later in the U.S. inspired her passion for addressing health disparities among underrepresented minorities and underserved communities.1 She obtained her doctoral degree in pharmacology from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.1

Recently, Dr. Olaleye was named an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow at the UT System, recognizing her leadership in higher education.34
