Question for you managing LinkedIn ads, which tool do you use for competitive analysis?

Aug 29 · linkedin

Here's an analysis on pricing transparency on 37,412 SaaS websites.

I'm still sifting through the data to garner insights, but thought I'd share what I've got so far.

Before I do, here's a question for you: as a percentage, how many SaaS businesses have transparent pricing on their website if you were to guess?

If I had to wager a guess I'd have said 50-60%.

What about how many offer a free trial?

So I analysed 37,412 SaaS businesses. Only 7,852 have transparent pricing.

That's 20.9%.

And only 2,076 have a free trial. That's 5.5% of total.

SaaS is a fragmented space. Big brands attract a lot of attention but there's some niche businesses out there you wouldn't intuitively think about: • Funeral home management system • Veterinary booking & management • SaaS to manage SaaS buying and management

I was looking at what's the highest visible price point I could find across the 7,582. And the answer is $84,000 - that's if you spend $2.5-5 million annually on SaaS.

Why do you think so few SaaS businesses show their pricing? And so few have a free trial?

My guess: • Customisation - pricing can vary widely depending on the features and scale required by different customers.

• Many SaaS businesses only deliver meaningful value at scale, so the majority are targeting an enterprise segment.

• Negotiation: Companies hide their pricing to engage prospects in a conversation. • Competitive concerns: Prevent competitors from undercutting.

As to why no free trials: • Product complexity: If a product requires significant setup, training, or data input to demonstrate its value, a free trial won't cut it.

• Cost burden: Offering a free trial can be costly both in terms of support and infrastructure.

• Free trials can attract users who are not serious about purchasing. These users consume resources without generating revenue, which can negatively impact the bottom line.

If there's an interesting analysis you have in mind let me know, I'll see if I can pull it off.
