🌋 Hanging On and Persisting: How I, Find Myself at the Heart of Our Nation's Volcano 🌋
From time to time (about once a year), I return to this song by Dan Almagor that Danny Litani sings so beautifully. Every time the question arises about what we are doing here, why to stay, and what we think and feel towards our volcano and its unilluminated slopes.
🤔I asked myself why this comes back to me once a year, and it seems that the answer lies in the annual volunteering with the Israeli Scouts 🏕️, in the tryouts of the Scout delegation to the USA. A whole weekend where I meet the best youth the Scouts (and therefore Israel) have to offer, a weekend delving deep into the core issues of Israel, confronting the youth and ourselves with the question of the place of Judaism in daily life and identity, in comparison to American Judaism, and what it has to do with me. 🙏 So... thanks to the Scout movement for allowing a wanderer like me to come and take part in this project. To those reading, I invite you to listen to the song sometime on the roads during the weekend 🚗, as you travel across the country (where it's still allowed to travel) and enjoy the physical and human landscape of our volcano once and for all.

After all, in the world, there are still quiet corners, without smoke and noise, and solid, good land that won't tremble under your feet. Why don't you move from here, and look for a safer place, where you can finally live in peace once and for all?
