"Is that an AR laptop???" Asked the guy sitting next to me on the flight, as he started explaining to those around us what it does and how it works.
He had never seen or heard of Spacetop before, but intuitively he knew exactly how to use it and why.
'Familiar' was one of the key principles that guided us as we designed Spacetop. Replacing the laptop screen with AR glasses is a huge leap into the future, while our goal was to create an experience for the present.
⌨️ We decided to keep the keyboard and trackpad while putting hand gestures and voice control aside, in order to offer a zero-learning-curve experience. If you know how to use a laptop, you know how to use a Spacetop.
🗓 The 100” spatial canvas, the place where all your content lives, was deeply inspired by experiences rooted in the physical world. For example, the ability to open up documents side-by-side with no need to 'alt-tab' searching for those lost windows, or hang your calendar up to have it always a glance away. Making more space for what matters.
🛩 The best examples are actually those that are so familiar, so intuitive, you barely notice them. Like when you walk with Spacetop between meeting rooms, ride the train, or take a flight - the virtual canvas is always with you, connected to your physical keyboard, as if they were one, just like you expect them to be.
These examples are not by chance. They are all very conscious design decisions made by the team - which took a lot of research, ideation, prototyping, and testing in order to design. All with the goal to create an experience that people see value in, enjoy, and feel familiar with - right from the start 😎
