Highlights
A year ago, I contributed to the book "From The Heart: Explorations in True Nature and Unconditional Love" for charity alongside Michael Neill Jamie Smart and many others, which asked the question "What would you love the world to know about true nature and unconditional love?" _ This was my answer: The one thing that I would like everyone to know about their true nature is that your true nature is inherently whole, at peace and unconditionally loving. _ Reconnecting with your true nature, the silent space within that is always and already here as the gap between your thoughts is the best thing you can ever do for yourself. _ Inner peace or wholeness is not something special that you need to attain and you also don’t need to heal yourself first as you already have inner peace and you are already whole, no matter how broken you might think you are. _ Inner peace only feels elusive as most of us are looking to find it in all the wrong places. _ We look to the external world and we look to the noisy parts of our experience, our thoughts and feelings. Then we try to change our thoughts and feelings in an attempt to feel better, yet by doing that we often make ourselves feel worse. _ All these experiences would not be possible without your awareness, a silent witnessing quality, that it is always there in the background. _ My invitation to you is to allow all your experiences to be as they are and instead start to notice the small gaps between your thoughts like the gaps between the words that you are reading right now. _ Start noticing the silence in between sounds and the small gap between your inhale and your exhale. It is within these gaps that your true nature reveals itself. _ The book is still available for free on kindle and all proceeds of the paperback go to charity. https://lnkd.in/d-BQjMBe

Why I am sceptical about corporate posts about World Mental Health Day:
_
In many ways we have come a long way to raise awareness and de-stigmatise Mental Health at work.
_
Yet it distracts from the real issue at hand, which are toxic corporate cultures that come from the top.
_
I still see too many companies being happy to invest in resilience training for the "troops" and have mental health awareness campaigns, yet they are not willing to address the underlying issues and change their cultures to a more "humane", more sustainable and dare I say more innovative and successful way of working.
_
Asking your employees to keep a healthy work-life-balance while also propagating a high pressure culture with last minute urgent requests, blame when something goes wrong and lack of psychological safety is nothing more than lip service.
_
If we are really serious about being mental health advocates and care about the wellbeing of our employees, we need to start with raising the level of consciousness of those in leadership roles and to change our corporate cultures.
_
As long as we have leaders who are not comfortable with uncertainty or not knowing and who have an old school and fear-based approach to work, it will be very difficult for Mental Health Awareness days to be more than just "lip service" or a well intended, yet fruitless campaign.
