Highlights
Had a great time hosting a panel discussion for Dartmouth's College Tuck MBAs in South Africa as part of a program to equip MBA students with global perspectives to develop intercultural leadership skills. The topic of discussion, "Creating a just and equitable society - opportunities and challenges of doing business in South Africa", recognised the importance of using business as a force for good to address the promise of a democratic South Africa. The panelists provided great perspectives and insights and we all learnt something from the engagement. Thank you to Professors Charles Wheelan and Adam Kleinbaum, and Bakala TuckGO Program Assistant Director Annika Turner for the opportunity, the The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth MBA students for great questions and our panelists Mthokozisi Dlamini, Grant Kelly, Linky Molatoli, John Kitenge, and Tutu Molomo for a frank and honest conversation.
Key takeaways for me was a reminder, that if we are to move beyond an economic construct of 'extract, exploit and exclude' we need to be 1 - thoughtful about the narrative we want to develop that expresses the society we want to be, 2 - deliberate about recognising and investing in people to solve our challenges and deliver on the narrative, 3- attentive to the soft stuff (culture - what are we ok with and not ok with as a society) and 4- playing to our strengths in the private and public sector by allowing and enabling the other to lead where it should.
Really a blueprint that is applicable to Africa!
#southafrica, #dartmouth, #tuckschoolofbusiness, #Africarising,
Honoured to attend the pre-screening of Kizazi Moto and meet some of the brilliant African creators behind the series. I was blown away by the fantastic storytelling, diversity of stories and animation genres. The thoughtfulness and passion of all who worked on this flows through the animations and highlights the bourgeoning talent on the continent. Shout out to Kaya Kuhn, Tafadzwa Hove, Lesego Voster, Terence Maluleke, Simangaliso 'Panda' Sibiya, and Nthato Mokgata aka Spoek Mathambo. Most importantly, the kids enjoyed seeing themselves in it and thoroughly enjoyed it! Go check it out!
