"Paris’s stunning vision for the Olympics wins a gold medal" said The Economist
The opening ceremony was dazzling, marked by our famous French “je ne sais quoi”, but it's almost not surprising since France has long been a leader in world-class creativity and culture.
After the “deluge” of praise from all around the world, including many “lieux communs”, my staff and I were wondering what we could add that would still be relevant!
We end with highlighting 3 things—3 small revolutions—that France has achieved since Paris was awarded the Olympic Games 7 years ago.
💸 1, Business: More than ever, France means business leveraging amazing infrastructures.
France has become the top destination for international investment and Paris has emerged as the biggest financial center in continental Europe, neck and neck with London in terms of market capitalization.
500 major international investors from 43 countries have been welcomed to Paris during the Olympics. Business France played its role by organizing more than 26 "France, Land of Champions" business events with foreign delegations.
We participated in an event at the Danish House with Morten Bødskov, Minister of Industry, on July 27th, to strengthen our ties with Danish investors, our 2nd largest investor for biotechnology!
All around these 15 Olympic days, the quality of our infrastructure—whether existing or newly built for the Games—was showcased as never before, covering transport, housing, high-speed broadband, and more.
📱 2, Tech: La French Tech is a reality in our day to day life as our “savoir faire” exemplified by the high quality apps put in place, ready to use either for ticketing, programming, transport 💥 La French Tech rose $13,5 Bn in 2022, x10 more than in 2022 💥France is a champion in AI, 3,2 Bn€ raised in 2022 +50% more than 2021 💥France is the leading country in the establishment of R&D centers in Europe with 170 projects in 2023
We were honored to participate in an event with Denise Campbell Bauer, U.S. Ambassador to France, on August 2nd with an interesting focus on #SporTech. There are significant opportunities for collaboration in sports innovation with the U.S., especially as we passed the Olympic torch to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Games.
♻ 3, Green: France demonstrated its green superpower status during the Olympics: ✅ A carbon footprint 50% lower than London Olympics ✅ 95% of the infrastructures already existed or will be dismantled ✅ 4,000 housing units will be repurposed
These Olympics showcased the face of a diverse, proud and innovative France. While France seemed divided between extremes lately, one might wonder what the result of the legislative elections would have been if they had been held in September 😉
The French have strengths that only them ignore. We will emerge stronger from this Olympic summer, which has been an exceptional showcase of French attractiveness
Now it's time for the Paralympic Games, with the Opening Ceremony tonight!
🇫🇷 France: A Land of Champions 🏅 ! I was thrilled to be invited to speak at yesterday’s event at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence in Paris, hosted by Her Excellency Denise Campbell Bauer, as part of the “France - Land of Champions” series organized by Business France. This celebration highlights the robust relationship in sports and economic cooperation between France 🇫🇷 and our Number 1️⃣ foreign investor, the United States 🇺🇸. During the games, Business France is involved in 40 business events held at embassies and Olympic Houses of participating countries alongside French companies. These gatherings aim to foster exchanges, create business opportunities, and propel French SMEs and mid-sized companies onto the global stage. A big thank you to the Ambassador Denise Campbell Bauer for bringing together so many French and U.S. companies – yesterday, we had over 180 enthusiastic participants 🎉 ! France 🇫🇷 is in the global spotlight with incredibly innovative Olympic Games emphasizing environmental sustainability: 🌎 Hosting 204 nations, 6,000 athletes, and 2,000 artists in a green Olympic village. ♻ Halving the carbon footprint compared to previous games. 🏚 Transforming the Olympic village into housing for 6,000 people, with 30% designated as social housing after the games. The sports industry is crucial in both France and the U.S. In France, it generates €77 billion annually, accounting for 2% of GDP and supporting 448,000 jobs. Major events like the French Open, Tour de France, and 24 Hours of Le Mans showcase our excellence. Meanwhile, the U.S. sports sector generates $500 billion annually, supporting 3 million jobs, with prominent leagues such as the NFL, NBA, and MLB. Our cooperation in sports is essential, as the U.S. is the top investor in France, with over 4,500 American companies employing 450,000 people and investing €150 billion in various sectors. French companies are also heavily invested in the U.S., with 4,800 subsidiaries employing 750,000 people and investments exceeding $350 billion. France is also a Land of Tech Champions, as AI is revolutionizing sports: 📍 Enhancing player performance, injury prevention, and fan engagement. 📍 Platforms like WSC Sports use AI to generate personalized content. 📍 Sports franchises, such as the Texas Rangers, leverage AI to interpret and analyze scouting reports and other data. 📍 CrowdIQ analyzes crowd data to optimize the fan experience. After the 2024 Olympic Games, we will proudly pass the baton to the U.S. 🇺🇸 for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. France is ready to share its expertise in organizing sustainable sporting events, aiding the U.S. in preparing for the 2028 Games. Together, we can achieve great things across all sectors of our economies! To conclude this exceptional tour, Business France will organize a major investor day on September 6th, bringing together over 150 companies. #Paris2024 #Sports Business France (Invest in France) La French Tech
