After 4 years, I am super enthusiastic to visit companies like Huawei, BYD, DJI, BGI again and many more like eHang that are confirmed already. I want to see how the Chinese Silicon Valley has re-invented itself, preparing to take on the world.

How did they do since 2020? What are their views on the Chinese economy and geopolitical climate? What’s their vision on innovation and Generative AI? How do they look at Europe? How do they manage employees in VUCA times? How has customer experience changed? … Will you grab this opportunity to travel with me to China in April? Are you as excited as I am?

This is the first blog of a series of three (monthly) blogs on China's economy. This blog is about five 'SYSTEMIC RISKS' of China. The next two blogs will cover China's STRATEGIC POSITIONING and SOCIETAL CHANGES.

In these blogs I discuss a dozen of the most common used arguments on why China’s economy will not recover, why it will not overtake the U.S., and why it could potentially stagnate (like Japan) or even fail. I explore some alternative dynamics, trends, paradoxes and viewpoints to offer additional context on why Beijing is not panicking yet, and why we shouldn't panic (yet).

In this first blog, I cover China's biggest systemic risks, being its local government debts, the real-estate bubble and GDP decline. I also address China's declining exports and whether the Communist Party of China is a systemic risk or systemic asset to deal with or at least navigate the nation through China's economic turbulence.
