Highlights
I was very sad to hear of the untimely passing of Dr. Kodjo Mensah-Abrampa yesterday. Dr. Mensah-Abrampa was one of those rare individuals who could not only perceive the contours of the systems for which he was responsible but also formulate realistic strategies to address and strengthen them. His loss is a great blow for Ghana and to all who knew him. On behalf of myself and everyone at IRC, our sincerest condolences to his family and all who he has left behind. May he rest in perfect peace.
Another great session at IWA Dev Conference. Listening to leaders from utilities, public health, urban development from Kampala, Kigali, Odisha, Dhaka.
Talking citywide inclusive sanitation. And how this city wide, system wide, planning approach pulls together people who weren't previously talking to each other.. but need to. Inspiring examples, even if not everyone yet seems to see faecal sludge management as an end point rather than a stepping stone.
G. Mathi Vathanan from Odisha, who's been a star of this conference, put it nicely yesterday. Putting sewers into cities in Odisha would be like "doing open heart surgery on a 100 year old". Not a good idea!
