Highlights
I had the pleasure of meeting with our Ascend Hotel Collection owners at our beautiful new Cambria hotel in downtown Austin, Texas last week. It was a fantastic opportunity to listen to owners of the industry’s largest collection of boutique, resort and historic hotels. Choice invented the “soft brand” 15 years ago with the launch of the Ascend Collection. Since then, the collection has grown to over 400 one-of-a kind properties around the world. Our soft brand offers the owners of unique upscale hotels access to Choice’s powerful booking platform and 62 million Choice Privileges loyalty members while enabling them to maintain their distinctive individuality. It’s a win-win for them, for Choice, and for the guests we all serve.
Every fall I look forward to attending the Choice Hotels International Executive Forum. Last week we spent three days with our prominent franchisees who collectively represent over 500 Choice-branded hotels in the US. We shared our plans for future investments in the brands and in our business delivery engine. We always learn more about industry issues impacting their hotels and identify new ways we can work together to enhance their businesses. It is really refreshing to be surrounded by successful entrepreneurs who are focused on the changing travel environment and always asking – what’s next? The answers to that question are particularly exciting and will drive our future business plans. At this time of year, when we reflect on gratitude, I am especially thankful for the long-term relationships and engagement we have built with our franchisees over the years. Together, we look beyond the immediate horizon and prepare for our continued mutual success well into the future.
