With extensive experience in project development and management, as well as nonprofit administration, Patti has committed her career to enhancing educational access for underrepresented communities. Currently serving as the Director of GEAR UP NC, she leads initiatives to promote college access and success for students across North Carolina. In addition to her role at GEAR UP NC, Patti has held various influential positions throughout her career. Her journey began at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where she worked as a Financial Aid Adviser and later transitioned to become a College Adviser. Her firsthand experience in advising students through the complexities of college applications and financial aid processes deepened her commitment to supporting student success. Later, she became a Resident Director at North Carolina State University, where she contributed to creating a thriving community for students on campus.
Patti also gained valuable experience as a Program Director for the NC State College Advising Corps, a position that allowed her to directly impact high school students by providing them with essential guidance and support as they navigated their pathways to higher education. Following this role, she served as a College Access & Success Manager at GEAR UP NC, focusing on expanding programs aimed at increasing access to higher education.
Patti’s early career experiences included serving as a Graduate Research Assistant at North Carolina State University and as a Research Education Analyst Intern at RTI International. These positions provided her with a strong foundation in research and data-based decision-making, skills that she applies to her current role in advocating for educational equity.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she developed a strong foundation in the principles of education. Continuing her educational pursuits, she obtained a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from North Carolina State University, further enhancing her knowledge and skills in educational practices and theories.
Currently, Patti is pursuing her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) at North Carolina State University, where she is deepening her expertise in educational research, policy analysis, and advocacy. Her doctoral studies reflect her dedication to understanding and improving access to education at systemic levels, ensuring that her work is informed by research and best practices in the field.
