Highlights
Our 103 Ave local bikeway is officially complete!
To support the launch of bike share in Surrey, operated by Bird Canada, we knew we needed to better link our City Centre with Guildford Town Centre, a major retail destination. Although we’ve accelerated capital projects to close gaps in the protected network, major infrastructure takes time to design and build.
To provide a safer option more quickly, we built Surrey’s first local bikeway in over a decade. Using pavement markings, signage, and some minor civil works, our Ops crews got the project ready to ride within a few short weeks this spring. And thanks to our partners in Parks, we just finished widening pathways through Hjorth Road Park to make it smoother and safer for cyclists and park users to share space.
From the feedback we’ve received, everybody loves riding through the quiet tree lined streets and discovering the unique neighbourhoods that make up Surrey.
It was a pleasure to share the story of the City of Surrey's journey to shared micromobility at BC's Active Transportation Summit! Attendees learned about how and why we made the decisions we did when crafting our bike share pilot with Bird Canada - and how it's been going since our launch in April!
Thank you to Sandra Phillips and the organizing team from BC Cycling Coalition and BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for the chance to share Surrey's story with everyone.
