Delivering on the Shared Rural Network upgrading Scotland
I was delighted to welcome Maggie Chapman MSP, Emma Roddick MSP, Beatrice Wishart MSP, Scottish Government, UK Government, Mobile UK, local authorities and many other keen stakeholders to our Shared Rural Network (SRN) event in Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on Wednesday evening.
At the event I was keen to detail how through the investment of the UK’s four mobile network operators (MNOs)-EE,O2,Three and Vodafone we will:
• Deliver reliable mobile broadband to 95% of the UK, addressing the digital divide by improving 4G coverage in the areas that need it most • In Scotland, coverage from all four operators will rise to a minimum of 74%, up from 44%. Coverage from at least one operator will increase from 81% to 91% by the end of the programme. • Upgrade existing networks and work together on shared infrastructure and new sites to transform mobile coverage in rural areas. This will increase choice and boost productivity in rural areas.
Delivering the SRN is a key focus for Virgin Media O2 and we are looking forward to working with people across Scotland to deliver it by June 2024 to ensure that businesses, consumers and communities in rural Scotland get the level of connectivity they need to thrive.
