Highlights
In this fourth and final lecture on valuation basics, I present the challenges of modeling growth using a discounted cash flow (DCF) model. We know that the value of a company is the present value of all future cash flows that the company will produce over its useful life discounted back for the time value of money and uncertainty of receiving those cash flows. Although a DCF is theoretically correct it presents significant practical challenges. I show in this video that a DCF's limitations are caused by the challenges of model growth.

The value of any company is the present value of ALL cash flows that the company will generate over its life discounted for time and uncertainty. In the third video on valuation basics, I discuss the challenges of discounting cash flows (NOPAT) into the future and the limitations of standard discounted cash flow (DCF) models. I end the video at an impasse, which sets-up the next video where I will explain that modeling growth is what breaks the standard DCF model.
