It was wonderful to have so many people together celebrate the premier of Our Blue World on Earth Day. The excitement and positive energy was palpable. There was a lot of joy in the room and those ripples will reverberate into the impact campaign that surrounds the film.

For me one of the happiest moments, was having my children there, Eoin, Katie and Rosie to share the experience. They heard about this new film project, over dinner or driving in the car, and saw it all coming together, gradually, bit by bit, over the last 2-3 years. They must have heard me humming the opening lines of the opening soundtrack song, Sound and Vision, a hundred times!

This all began after the launch of Brave Blue World, during the long lock-downs, when I had time on my hands to think about what a new project might look like. I kept reading more and more books about water, going down rabbit holes, about water and climate, water mythology, indigenous and ancient wisdom. My children joke, that at one point, there was a book day arriving from Amazon! And they weren't far wrong on that.

Then, at a certain point, I did what we all do when we need a clear head and time to think; I went for a walk. A long walk, on the Camino de Santiago in Northern Spain. As I was walking, I began to think about what we hoped to achieve by making another film. I thought if we can help get people to value water, that would be a worthy goal. I thought, what documentary films have I ever watched that fundamentally changed me? And the one that stood out, from all of the others  was My Octopus Teacher. Because having watched that film, I won't eat octopus anymore. And I thought, why is that? It's a really simple, deeply personal story. So the idea was make a film about people and our relationship with water, and reach people at a heart level, not only the mind, and hopefully be able to change the way they relate to it, maybe get them to care about water, value water, and maybe fall in love with water. That was our North star.

The aha moments were, if we leave more water for nature, it can help reverse some of the effects of global warming, and cool the planet. And that people don't have to always be part of the problem and we can learn to live as part of water and the environment.

Special thanks to Aoife, without whom there would be no Our Blue World, (or indeed Brave Blue World). Fortune smiled the day Aoife walked into my office for as a young graduate. Little did she know what adventures lay ahead, from being chased by monkeys or white knuckled in a jeep going down the sides of the Andes Mountains. We made it, and it's been fantastic to have great companions on the journey, including my partner in crime, Jeff and all the BlueTech Research Team who help in so many ways to support our work.

Everything in life is better shared. We are happy to share this film, which is a story of how water unites and connects us all.
