Pauline Williams is a renowned leader in Global Health R&D at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), specializing in drug discovery and development for Diseases of the Developing World and Maternal and Neonatal Health.

She is instrumental in various open-innovation initiatives such as the Tres Cantos Open Lab and the Africa Non-communicable Diseases Open Lab, with a focus on enhancing research capabilities to tackle the rising burden of NCDs in sub-Saharan Africa.

Pauline's role involves collaborating with African researchers and physicians to conduct clinical studies on cancer, respiratory, cardiovascular, and renal diseases to enhance treatment responses in African patients.

Additionally, she actively contributes to the GSK partnership with Save the Children, aiming to save a million children's lives by developing cost-effective medications for neonatal sepsis and postpartum bleeding prevention.

At the Tres Cantos facility in Spain, Pauline oversees research units dedicated to Malaria, TB, and Kinetoplastid Disease, fostering collaboration between GSK scientists and academic researchers through the Tres Cantos Open Lab.

Pauline's leadership extends to the development of the Global Health Discovery Incubator, enabling GSK to venture into new disease areas like Shigella, leveraging innovative scientific approaches to address childhood diarrhoea.

Her academic background includes a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from the University of Wales College of Medicine.

Previously, she held the positions of Head of Maternal and Neonatal Health R&D and Head of Academic DPU at GSK before assuming her current role as Senior Vice President and Head of Global Health R&D at GlaxoSmithKline.
