Ignorance? Arogance? Both? ⚠️ . . . Unfortunately, Ballmer's (ex-CEO) mindset is rooted in Microsoft's products and services to this day and it is incredible to me, that MS is still alive and successful (?) as a company. Nearly every interaction I have with #outlook , #sharepoint or #O365apps is painful, making me feel like I am working with tools from the early 00's, only put in a "modern" coat.
Keeping legacy applications alive, making business users dependent on expensive system integrators when peak performance is needed and interlacing core applications with other useless and outdated apps - that is Microsoft in my eyes.
Time to migrate away? A step I'd compare to moving from fossil fuels cars to EVs - very painful, but the air will be so much fresher afterwards... 🌿
Energy efficiency beats investments in new HW technologies. All day, every day. 🔋 . . . “Energy” has kept its position on top of news outlets over the last 3-4 years. Considering everything that has been going on in the world over this period, one could call this incredible; especially because energy was one of the most boring topics in the preceding decades…at least in Europe.
With all this turmoil and omnipresent ambition to save on energy and to reduce carbon emissions, there are many approaches to this challenge. One more sophisticated and capital-intensive than the other. But one approach comes on top as a clear winner…by a lot. And that is plain #efficiency.
As Lauren Wheatley wrote in her amazing Gartner report on #EMOS (Energy Management and Operating System): “Energy efficiency is the single largest measure to reduce energy demand in IEA Net Zero Emissions by 2050 Scenario.”
Energy efficiency is not going to solve all the problems, but it is a damn good place to start. So before you begin investing heavy #CAPEX into new technologies, start with thinking about more efficient operations with your current resources. With solutions like FLOWBOX integrating any kind of technology will be then seamless, and above all: it will be based on hard data and well-thought and sustainable energy strategy.
