This is the most inspiring thing I have seen in quite a while. At a glance one could think: Yes, its an 8 year old coding - cool. But I invite you to self reflect about the huge unlock of creativity that is becoming available with these AI-assisted coding tools. Children can have the wildest ideas, but up until now have had to resort to limited outlets such as "speaking their mind", drawing on paper (or furniture), clay etc, to dolls and Lego, to digital alternatives such as Stardoll, Minecraft and various apps. But even in Minecraft & co it takes a while to create your vision. This feels like a new chapter.

Here is a small set of AI explorations you can do in your own time over the summer instead of Sudoku and crosswords. It’s for you who might feel a bit concerned about all this AI stuff people are talking about and perhaps you feel like it is hard to get a grasp on it or where to begin to understand it. You can build a personal sense for what models can do, and to demystify them to yourself. I will gather all links in a comment below below.
- The AI world is a buffet - Try some different AI chats Sometimes it sounds like OpenAI is the only thing out there, with their ChatGPT4, or 4o models that gets a lot of PR. They are some of the best general purpose models, but there are many other out there.
Take a moment and try some of the (currently) best ones. For example you can ask them the exact same things and see how they respond, and also - try to keep a conversation/chat for a while to see when the model “hits the wall” (running out of its short term memory and either stops, or starts to give you watered down answers). This will make you see that there can be some limitations to AI.
• Open AI's ChatGPT 4 or 4o • Anthropic's Claude 3.5 • Meta's Llama 70B 2. Visit the Star Wars bar of AI: Get familiar with the place where a lot of the models live - Huggingface.co Think of Hugging Face as a library of AI models, almost like an app App Store. From there, someone can download models, or create something with them and let them run right from the Huggingface platform. Some things are more technical, and some are more easy to understand. Just build some familiarity with the site and what it is. You don’t have to understand everything.
While you are there, 3. Play with some examples of what models can do Go to the Spaces section at Hugging Face. Here you will see a lot of one-pager “AI-apps” which all have their own webpage. Click around and play with a few of them. Some will seem more technical, and some very approachable. Try the ones you find interesting. After using some, you will notice that most will look very similar, that is because they use the same interface tool (Gradio). This will be helpful because you will become increasingly familiar with the wordings and fields after trying some different AI-apps. You cannot break anything, so just try them out.
If you have 2-3 hours to invest, I suggest you explore this to build up your own feeling for what some of the things AI models can do, and some common limitations of AI. Every now and then, you can return to the Huggingface Spaces to get some inspiration of what can be done, and what is cooking.
Let me know if you have any questions or get stuck somewhere. If people find this useful, let me know, I might make some more posts in the future.
Have a nice and exploratory summer! #ai #exploration #huggingface #gradio
