Plant is of Yaqui, Mexican, Choctaw, Cherokee, and European ancestry.3 No members of her family have ever lived on a reservation.23 She lives in unincorporated Contra Costa County and sees the Chevron refinery in Richmond, California, every day.23

Plant has been actively involved in the business world as a current business owner at Gathering Tribes. She is also a Water Protector and identifies as Mother Earth.1
