Level Playing Fields?
In these challenging times #socialpurpose organisations are having to dip into their reserves to meet increasing demand.
A constant bugbear for me - private sector organisations can make a profit when they win social purpose contracts but #charities and other #nonprofits are often told by #localgovernment and others issuing contracts that they have to return any surplus - too many wrongly think that #nonprofitorganizations can't make a profit - their status simply means that they don't distribute their profits to shareholders or members. If you cant retain a surplus you can't build reserves.
Third Sector have shared a clip of my little rant about this during a Third Sector podcast Caron Bradshaw OBE and I did on reserves with Russell Hargrave and Lucinda Rouse https://lnkd.in/efAZ22qj CFG : Charity Finance Group ACEVO Crowe UK Crowe Global CIPFA Directory of Social Change NCVO
