Highlights
15 years at Retail in Motion After many years in Hangar 57, Retail in Motion moved to a new office. I had the honour to officially "open" the new office by cutting the red velvet ribbon together with Kristina Gutiene 🙂 Both Kristina and I clocked more than 15 years at the company - making us the "oldest" ones at RiM - also called RiMosaurs.
In the past 15 years I made an incredibly exciting journey at RiM.
Towards the end of 2007 I started working on an Order Management System to support the tiny company's growing logistics operation. The "IT department" at the time consisted of "only" 4 people - but what a team it was! The OMS project started as a "one-man band" and went live in Sept 2008, then steadily growing together with the business for the forthcoming years. I'm very proud of this application - especially as this is still in operation today, handling tens of thousands of pallet movements a year. The application was able to scale together with RiM, and we were able to adopt to the ever-changing requirements, 2008 financial crisis, company takeover, brexit, Covid - just to name a few. Special thanks to Luis Merino González for taking care for this module (as well) these days. Probably my most favourite baby is vPack. This tool helps airlines to cater their aircrafts. In 2010 this project also started as a one-man-show and first went live in Dec 2010 for Ryanair in Dublin. This was initially a rocky ride, but at the end managed to hit all the deadlines! Then I built a whole development team around this project to grow it to the next levels. Special thanks to Attila Papp, who even moved to Ireland to join RiM to jump in and help the project out during the most challenging times. A man, you can always count on! Over the years this vPack application got deployed for 50+ airlines, which means hundreds and hundreds of catering facilities all over the world! This application truly transformed the way airlines handle their catering today, bringing in huge improvements in many-many areas. I think I’m not exaggerating if I say vPack these days is such an industry standard tool in its field, as Excel in the office world 😊 During these adventures I had the opportunity to visit and meet many airlines and work together with them to shape the way catering works and how this industry is supported by our IT systems. Another huge project was the Vector1 to Vector2 migration, when we've done a massive refactoring. This included redesigning the whole solution, including all the modules, the database and refreshing the technology stack to solve challenges posed by the rapid growth of the company and the corresponding IT solution. Thanks to Alin Sirbu, Peter Murphy, Stephen O Reilly, Attila Papp and many others, who with we worked together though these very tough and gruelling times, but we managed to bring it all to the next level 🙂 Of course, none of it would have happened without some of the best colleagues in the world!
