Designing successfully for any outcome requires understanding and breaking down cause & effect at different levels of abstraction. Over time, it increasingly includes how you capture learnings about cause & effect, and what works, for reuse.

Here are some things to think about - hope they spark some ideas :)

Get to the "why": The more you can understand "why" things happen vs. simply "that" they happen will determine if you are throwing spaghetti at the wall, or making informed and measured attempts based on well-formed hypotheses. It's the working style difference between being really stressed and busy or making calm and steady progress.

Learn over time: Whether you are 1 person starting out or part of a larger business, as you march through a problem space, what you learn about cause & effect (if captured!) becomes your knowledge base. It's what you reference to inform future decisions.

Manage your knowledge: An ability to capture what you learn in ways that can be easily accessed, used, and added to, can make the difference between success and failure over time. Every decision can be impacted by what you can or can't get access to - and this gets even harder once what you know is used by multiple people and reflects your org structure!

Some questions to think about 🤔 💡

How might you or your team... ... get closer to that "why" so actions you take are more effective over time? ... better approach learning about cause & effect in your work? ... improve your approaches to managing knowledge to bring better information to decision makers?

P.S. Are we still using hashtags in here or am I being a silly millennial?
