Peter Winn's entrepreneurial journey includes founding and serving as the former President of English First Professional English (EF), which evolved into one of China's most prominent consumer brands under his leadership. His innovative approach to retail expansion and hybrid online/offline services played a pivotal role in EF's market success and rapid growth. The strategic integration of national marketing efforts, streamlined operations, and the establishment of a premium 'lifestyle' brand positioned EF as a dominant force in high-end education and consumer services in China. The children's operations of EF China were acquired by Permira Advisers in 2020 in what was China's largest education buy-out.
Continuing his entrepreneurial endeavors, Peter founded and expanded Talent Education Group from 2012 to 2019, establishing it as a major player in children's training across key Tier 1-2 cities in China. Subsequently, a significant portion of the business was sold to WorldStrides, a company within the portfolios of Primavera Capital and Eurazeo. Peter also played a pivotal role in supporting CVC Capital's acquisition of EIC, China's leading overseas study advisory group, in 2014. Serving on the board, he facilitated EIC's acquisition of New Pathway, a prominent high-end tutoring company in China. By optimizing EIC's operations and business processes, Peter spearheaded the business's successful sale in 2016, marking one of Asia's most notable education buy-outs in the past decade.
With a robust background in consulting and finance, Peter Winn's early career included roles at prestigious firms such as McKinsey & Co, Morgan Stanley in the Investment Banking Division, and Wharf Holdings. His tenure at Wharf saw the development of China's pioneering modern shopping malls, setting the stage for the evolution of consumer retail in the region. At McKinsey, Peter advised consumer brands on formulating China strategies and expansion plans.
Peter Winn holds an impressive academic pedigree, including a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Arts in International Studies focusing on China from the University of Pennsylvania, a Bachelor of Arts in Chinese Studies from Princeton University, and diplomas from Phillips Academy and Pine Crest School.
