You know what would be really cool? Bipartisan, public congressional hearings with data industry leaders for the purpose of writing better legislation protecting our data. Not the kind of hearings to rile up your base and get votes, but the kinds of hearings to fix a bad situation.
We see articles like this every day, with no real consequences. We get emails about it with no real assistance. "Oops! Someone stole your data a long time ago. We're admitting it publicly because PR. We tried to protect you but [shrug]. Here's some free ID monitoring for a useless time period that puts the burden on you, doesn't protect anything, but gives you warnings that your data was found on the black market. Oh, and change your passwords, that'll show 'em!"

Due to unforeseen business changes, a few of us received notice last week that our positions will be eliminated. I was the second full-time employee hired into Think Company and I'll always be proud of helping this place grow into the best consultancy focused on designing and building better enterprise business systems. Think Company is a strong and vibrant community of talented designers, researchers, content strategists, technologists, project managers, AND all of the people in the background that keep the place humming. I'll miss my colleagues and clients dearly, but I know they'll continue to do amazing things.
Part of my new mission is to help my friends who were laid off at the same time as me. They're a small group of talented designers, technologists, and leaders. We immediately started sharing resources, reviewing each other's resumes, and providing encouragement because that's the kind of people we are. So if you have open roles that don't fit my profile, hit me up so I can see if I know a fit. They're Thinkers, so you know they've already been vetted by the best.
I am excited for what's next for me. It has been a chance of a lifetime to build a consultancy like Think Company. I'm excited to share those skills and leadership with another organization.
