When I read business books, I identify with the examples and wonder how to apply the concepts. It isn’t simple, and many great ideas aren't implemented through failure of imagination.   I’m inspired by BCG’s Centaurs and Cyborg research, Ethan Mollick’s Co-Intelligence: Living and Working with AI and General Stanley McChrystal’s Team of Teams: New Rules of Engagement for a complex world.   Key elements that grabbed my attention were the opportunity to increase organisational effectiveness by improving communication and quality of thought and decision-making across silos.

Keywords: visibility, empowerment, and generative AI.   The questions I ask when exploring new ideas: 1.     What are the key concepts that grabbed me? 2.     How can they be meaningfully applied? 3.     How can progress and benefits be measured and shared?   I turned to ChatGPT: “Please summarize 'Co-intelligence' by Ethan Mollick in a mind map and suggest other methods for visualization and discussion”   This is useful cross-checking against the author's larger concepts and themes. ChatGPT provided a great summary and suggested “sketch noting”. I asked for an example.   The image didn’t suit my immediate purpose, but included a word I hadn’t heard: “Indocuvation”. Turns out it’s new to Google too - a ChatGPT hallucination. It struck me as subversive, interesting, and useful.   “Can you define 'Indocuvation' and its relevance to this topic?”   ChatGPT backpedalled: “this isn’t a recognised term in the context of AI, technology, or the book in question”. Cool, but the idea’s in my head now.   “Considering 'indocuvation' might blend 'indoctrination' and 'innovation' for organizational change, how could we apply it benignly to integrate these concepts effectively?”   Ethan Mollick makes the point that creative stuff is where generative AI excels, and I was provided with a very actionable plan on how we might encourage “indocuvation” in a mid-sized corporate environment.   “How can we apply 'Team of Teams' principles to the proposed plan to boost visibility, empowerment, and organizational effectiveness?”   Again, impressive results. Okay, now I’m excited.   “How can we measure and track progress using a maturity model to show achievements and guide adjustments at all organizational levels?”   I now have the basis for an actionable maturity model and consider that my $20 ChatGPT subscription this month has been well spent.   I’m aware that the limiting factor here is my imagination. What opportunities am I leaving on the table? I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas: a.     How are you integrating new ideas into your organizational practices? b.     How do you navigate the challenges of communication and empowerment? c.     What have I missed?   This post has been pruned to fit character limits. If you’re interested in the full prompts I’m happy to share.
